A few bugs thats has never been attended too...

Well there are 3 bugs that have constantly driving me up the wall. I thought it was just the iPhone I had, but since I have had it replaced 3x and I have an iPod Touch which has one of these problems also.

Problem 1: When an incoming caller has a picture with there information, the phone freezes and won't let me answer the phone. This has been a problem that hasnt been addressed since the earlier OS'.

Problem 2: When there is an incoming call, the slider sometimes jams up and won't let you answer the call, the only solution to this has been to stick in the headphones and answer your call through its mic button. This has been present since the earlier OS' too.

Problem 3: Relates to all models of iPhone and iPod. Music videos played through a shuffle sometimes do not show the video, however the audio continues to play. Problem present since FIRST OS.

I'm certain that many of you have this problem, and would like Apple to fix this hopefully in their upcoming OS'.

iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G, Other OS, OS 3.1.2 for all devices

Ok then, so what about the music videos then?
All my music videos are from iTunes itself and this problem has been present since day one.

With the second bug, I wouldnt understand how the photo would affect it, considering it happens to contacts that don't even have an image with them
Oh and before I forget, this also happens with text messages too when they come in from sleep mode.

So yeah, I think it would be a bug 🙂

As far as the 3rd issue, are you saying that you are playing your ipod and shuffling all music or shuffling a playlist? If this is true then when you come upon a video it will only play the audio portion. This is as designed. You have to start videos from a video menu (or playlist).

As far as the second "bug", there are a number of things that could be happening. I am assuming you have tried Restoring your phone as a new phone and using it for a few days that way to see if a 3rd party app is causing it? If not, try it.

To be a bug it would need to be occurring with all iPhones, including mine, and as I said it is not doing so.

With music videos, they do appear in your song list, playlists and are played in shuffles. This problem isnt only persistant in iPod Touch, but also with iPhone. I have generally been able to play a shuffle and stumble across a music video with the video playing, but as i have said, sometimes only the audio will play and the screen is blank. If you think that I might be even slightly wrong with this, go into iTunes, buy 1 or get yourself 1 for free, sync it and try it out. Who knows, maybe this problem is persistant with the australian stock of ipod and iphone.

As for the first problem, all i can do is remove the photos from each contact to stop it from freezing, but then doesnt it seem pointless that the image option exists for contacts then?
As for the second problem, the slider lets me go to the end of "slide to answer" or "slide to view" but won't open once it reaches the end. I have spoken to Apple themselves and they looked lost for words.

I'm apreciate your help regardless though

Well thats what makes it bizarre, the photos were taken on the iphone, some werent and i figured they were a problem because the phone couldnt draw them up fast enough, thus freezing it when a call came through. I thought maybe it was that, but as i said, its bizarre, because some of the photos taken on the iphone even freeze it up with the contact. I first thought before posting this 3 months ago that it was just my iphone doing it, as I have said, i have gone through 3 iphones, my current one is only 3 weeks old. My brother also has one, and the problems are similar.

So its very weird. Surprised it hasn't happen to yourself or others. Could it be something "carrier" related? Could the carrier settings be affecting it? I am aware that most users on this forum would be with AT&T, however, I'm on Australia's larget 3G coverage network Telstra, and my phone is officially unlocked, never jailbroken

I would not have carrier problems as my first guess, but it could be possible. I've not seen this problem on the four other people I know with the iPhone 3G nor the two people I know with the iPhone 3Gs. You might try restoring it as a new phone (don't load your backup), then add one contact with a picture taken on your iPhone and see if the problem occurs. If it does not, and you then Restore your iPhone from backup and it starts again we can assume it is a corrupted contact or a problem with a 3rd party app.

Ok this is how it went. iPhone photos taken directly from that particular iPhone didn't freeze the phone on calls. Some photos restored from a backup froze, whilst photos that have either being synced through itunes or through your contact list on your computer, in my case Windows Vista didn't optimize properly enough for the phones memory to handle too much, creating as you said a corrupted photo file. My only way around this is to either take the photos from that iphone, or delete all contact pictures.
Or in future, Apple might go back to its basic small photo next to contact name, instead of taking the whole screen when they call.

If you know anyone who has an iPhone synced to Vista contact list, tell them to give it a try and see what happens, just so I can get a better idea on my end.

The only pictures that should take the whole screen are ones from your iPhone. Pictures added to a contact and then synced should only give you the small picture. Sounds like something happened when the photos from your Vista machine were added to your iPhone.

For the next step you might try shooting a picture of a contact with a camera (just one), loading it onto your computer, creating a second contact, adding that picture to it, and then syncing it. If it works we'll know the corruption happened to the photos during an earlier OS version and you may have to do some detective work to find out which ones are corrupt.

Hi xpmario,

I can confirm bugs nr 1. and 2. occuring on my iPhone 3G. I was able to resolve bug nr 1. which kept occurring for me always when one specific contact called me. I don't remember how it occurred to me, but for some reason I traced it down to the specific photo attached to this contact. (Photo not taken with the iPhone, but synced from my address book) However I changed the photo attached (within address book) to this contact for another, which was essentially of the same size, and the bug has never occurred to me since...

Concerning bug nr 2. it occasionally happens to me too. However, most of the time (but not always) I'm able to answer the call through repeated "slides" of the slider. It can however be very annoying. (As if the slider was attached to an invisible string of rubber)

A few bugs thats has never been attended too...
