Audio formats incompatible in auto CD players

When I burn a CD of a playlist, the only format (codec) options is MP3 and "Audio CD". What is the default 'Audio CD' format? Is there any way of changing that format? Problem: One of my cars will play MP3 and not 'Audio CD', while the other car is exactly the opposite. This means I have to make 1 CD in each format. I want to find a format that will play in both.

Any ideas? First, I need to know what the default 'Audio CD' format is and if I can change that format.

I am using iTunes 9.

You can't change the format of "Audio CD". Burning a CD using the Audio CD setting creates a CD to the red book standard (the same as the CDs you buy in the shops). The problem seems to lie with your CD players, Audio CD should play in any regular CD player, MP3 CDs will only play in a player that accepts that format (for instance many in-car CD players). Does the car player you have that appears to only play MP3 CDs play regular shop bought discs? If it doesn't then perhaps it is faulty.

Bummer. No, the car that is playing the MP3 format does play store bought CD's. I wonder if this means there might be a problem in iTunes writing to the CD in in this format. But, if so, why does it play properly in the one vehicle? One other question, when I select "Audio CD" and tic "Include CD text", The resulting CD only shows 'track 1'... Why doesn't the program maintain the song titles?

Maybe the only resolution is to find a format that both vehicles will play and convert the files to that format.

Okay, I've been playing around and found a work-around. Instead of cutting the CD with iTunes, I converted the MP3 files to 'Audio CD' (cda) using dBpoweramp Music Converter and burned the CD using their writer. The results were as I expected. The CD's are now playing in both of my vehicles. Your comment Zevoneer, that Audio Cd's should play on ALL players led me to try this. A BIG THANK YOU for that Zevoneer! BTW, both players are also displaying each track song titles also, which never happened with the CD's burned on iTunes.

However, this still begs an answer as to why iTunes Audio CD is apparently not formatting properly. Is this an issue that Apple should be dealing with? How or who do I present the problem to?

Thanks for your help!
