Leopard won't recognize Alesis Multimix 12 USB...??

Hello, all--

I have an Alesis Multimix 12 with USB connection, which I'm trying to get connected to Garageband. I'm having two problems, actually - first, I connected the mixer, switched the prefs to "USB AUDIO CODEC," and attempted to get GB to recognize more than the two mono tracks - it should pick up 8 since there are 8 inputs in the mixer. Nothing.

Then, I determined from what little info is online that I might need updated Mac OS X ASIO drivers, which I downloaded and installed - now my Mac won't recognize the mixer at ALL. Does anyone have any idea at all why this would be happening and/or what I can do to get this thing in action?

Thanks so much!
C.

If you are talking about this one...then it's two channels only.

As already mentioned the only 2.0 versions I know of are the 8 and 16.

You will need to uninstall or bypass the ASIO drivers.

Normally mixer's like this Alesis are class compliant on Mac's, using Apple's Core Audio.

Generally, ASIO driver's for audio interface's are used on PC's.

Since ASIO is a Steinberg protocol and the Alesis comes with Cubase I would assume there may be some mention of using ASIO somewhere. But no need on a Mac. And as far as I know it should be using Windows USB Codec drivers also. So I would think it would not work with ASIO drivers on either platform.

You can mic the kick and do an overhead for the drums.

For two vocals, I would assume two mic's.

So that's the 4 mic pre's on the Alesis.

Then DI the guitar, bass and line-in the keys.

It's totally possible to do and may suit your needs just fine. You will just have to mix with the Alesis as HT mentioned. And it will depend on your ears and what your goals are for the recordings, if it is capturing what you are looking for.

Which it may well do.

If not look for an interface with more mic pre's and one that will allow you to input more simultaneous tracks.
