Editing Guitar Tab in Logic

I've just bought the new version of Logic Express, and I want to try writing some guitar tabs (it's probably not the best tool for the purpose - but it's worth a try).

Apple's documentation is really poor, and even Google isn't telling me what I need to know.

I started off creating a software instrument channel, created a few bars of blank midi, then switched to score view. It took a while to work out how to convert from a regular stave to a 6-line tab, but I right clicked something, changed the stave properties and I'm done.

I then worked out that dragging notes from the toolbox on the left of the screen into the tab allowed me to place a note (and helpfully, the instrument played the notes as I moved the mouse up and down before dropping the note in place).

What I can't work out is how to actually change the fret number of this new note. I can drag the note up (so the tone rises and the number changes from fret 0 to 4 (for example) on the A string before becoming 0 on the D string). I want to tab up frets > 4 though, and I just can't see how to do it. I tried highlighting the note and hitting a number, but that just cycles through screens. I also tried pressing option / control / command etc. when dragging and that didn't work either.

This has got to be really simple, right?

Hi,

indeed, it's not easy to understand the manual on this subject.
The trick is in the midi channel of each note.
Open an event list (Command + 2) next to the TAB score. When you select a TAB note, it will highlight in the event list. Lower or higher the midi channel of that note until you see it jump to another string.
When using a guitar synth, use the mode where each string has it's own midi channel. The the notes will appear on the right strings that way (at least, I used to get it working that way).

Regards,
Jaap
