unable to reach incoming server port 110 with router

I'm unable to get mail on my POP accounts but my Gmail account is working fine getting the error message that " the server "shawmail" cannot be contacted on port 110 "
I have tried to power cycle both the router and modem , made sure the account worked online :all working , checked the settings in mail they look right , router seem to have the right port open to allow mail to work ,and i have done the simple thing of restarting too
any idea on what i might be missing to get it work would be great
mal has worked before on this set up before it is just recent that it has to show the error

If you only see 'shawmail' may want to go to this page:

http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCare/InternetSupport/Residential/RoutersandShaw ServerNames.htm

and enter your location to verify you have the proper server name entered in your mail account settings.
