Replacing Trackpad

Replacing Trackpad

Is it possible to replace the trackpad and button on the MacBook?

Somebody spilled a couple of drops of glue on it and it has left a very annoying mark.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Aldo_IceMan,

The trackpad and button are integrated into the entire top case assembly, which also includes the keyboard. So you'd need to replace the whole piece, for example, with the part here-

Just out of interest, does anyone know how much it would cost to replace if I took it to an Apple Retail Store?

Way too much.

Buy a new keyboard on eBay for around $50 and install it yourself for free. YouTube videos show how, it's easy.

Aldo,

I can't speak for UK pricing, but I know that the last time I referred someone to a retail store and they had this part replaced it ran them $141.22 with tax. The store did not charge labor for installation, but I'd imagine that was more of courtesy (considering the level of difficulty).

I've had a look on eBay, unfortunately a black top case (version 1) with a UK keyboard are a little scarce.

Just back from the Apple Store. They charged 65GBP for the top case and waived the cost of labour. Brilliant, I love Apple!
