Change Sound Output Shortcut?

Is there a way to change my sound output without having to going all the way to System Preferences?

mac pro, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Volume? Try the sound icon on the menu bar (use SHIFT or OPTION key to get different settings) or the sound control keys on the keyboard.

nope. I meant picking which sound output to use - headphones/line out/digital out/usb sound card.

OPTION-click the volume menu bar icon selected in the Sound prefPane.

if you upgrade to snow leopard this can be done by option clicking on the volume button in the menu bar. for leopard I highly recommend Soundsource

I have an issue with the sound output. When I plug in my headphones it registers in system preferences output as headphones, and I can hear sound. As soon as I unplug the hedphones it switches to digital output, and I want internal speakers out. Under system preferences it does not give me any other choice except digital output or headphones (when they are plugged in). I am baffled. I believe it was a key stroke. Apple was not abble to help me resolve it next to completely re-installing the whole hardrive. Help!!!
