iPhone not detecting end of "dock-mode" when sleeping?

hi,
I noticed a "problem" with my iPhone 3GS: When I put it into my docking station, it goes in "dock-mode" ... which means it plays most sounds through the 30-pin-connector instead of the iphone's speakers. The problem is that, when I take the iphone out of the dock when it's sleeping, it's not detecting the end of "dock-mode", which means I have no sound when, for example, I play a video or a game. This is kinda annoying ... any ideas if this is normal, if there is a workaround or something? the best solution for me would be is I could disable the dock-mode completly and have the iphone always play it's sounds through the speaker, but I'm afraid that's not possible

thanks
