Problem with iWeb asking for username and password to access my public site

I've had the same issue. After selecting and de-selecting the "make my public site private" and then re-publishing it sometimes is fixed and sometimes is not. Very odd behavior.

Same sh*t here, very disturbing. I have to click it away about five times before I get my main page.

No requests for any "passwords".

Republished the site this morning (GMT+2) and got your answer at 14:45 (same timesone). So for now it should be OK again.

I am having the same problems. My site is public, I checked the settings on the public folder on MobileMe to ensure that it was public and did not require password protection either. But for some odd reason, even though I didn't change anything, my site's pages seem to require a user name and password to get into them. If one continues to click cancel, the page continues to load.

This does not happen every single time, but it happens more often than not. I have tried this with my iMac, Macbook, as well as my iPod Touch, and I get this on all machines. My brother has tried logging in from another location using his Macbook Pro, and he gets the password prompt as well.

I tried turning on password protection to the site and uploading the changes, then disabling password protection and reupping the changes once again. I've tried uploading entire site, instead of just changes, but the problem continues to persist. I definitely need this issue solved since this site is important to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions to rectify this, or does anyone have any idea what is causing it? Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong? Please help me out!

The issue seems to be sporadic, since I just tried opening the home page, and it did so without any issue. When I tried opening another page on the site, the problem resumed once again. This problem has been viewed with Snow Leopard (my brother from another location), and with Leopard (my computers), and lastly with iPod OS 3.0 Safari. I have not tried accessing the site with a Windows PC, so I don't know if the problem exists in that environment.

very strange problem
i had a chat with mobileme support and they say that this occur when the CNAME is not pointed to the correct place with the registrar. They ask me to check the my domain is pointing to web.me.com OR web.me.com. (note the period).
I'm checking with my registrar...
If this is true using address like web.me.com/casabastiano must be ok.
Could someone confirm?

If this is the issue, then why did it all of a sudden come up? I have been running this website for more than a couple of years, and this issue is just coming up now. I had never changed anything with my CNAME redirect.

Me too. I started my website on 2007 and i had never changed anything with CNAME.
I don't understand this problem and i have no idea. Maybe i'll contact again mobileme support. I suggest someone else do the same and write here what mobileme support said.

I'm having the exact same problem. This appears to be a problem on Apple's side, and it would be nice if they would acknowledge the problem exists. I only found out because someone I know came to me asking for help on why it was happening and when I tested my site, which hasn't been updated in over a year, suddenly I find it's also prompting for a password.

I have a personal domain set up with a CNAME pointing to madgunde.com, and a URL redirect redirecting www.madgunde.com to madgunde.com.

As I mentioned, I haven't made a change to this web site or the DNS settings in more than a year and last time I checked a few weeks ago, it worked fine. This appears to be a very recent issue on Apple's web hosting servers.

Republished my site yesterday, but the problem is completely back. It looks like that the problem gets worse, but I'm not sure about that. I get mails from friends and family complaining about the readability of my site.... 😟

Hope that Apple solves this problem.
