How to buy ringtones in iTunes

Am I missing something? I thought I saw that you could buy ringtones now in iTunes 9. How the heck do you find that feature? Looks to me like they took it out. I can't even see which songs now have the ability to be a ringtone. ???

I just checked my iTunes. When you click on "Purchased" and view the list of purchased music, if you alt click on the song you want, one of the options is "Create Ringtone." It appears to work for all of the songs I've purchased. The box pops up in the bottom of iTunes to select the part of the song you want to use for the ringtone. After you select the section of the song you want, click on "Buy" in the bottom right corner of iTunes window. Each new created ringtone is 99 cents.

On a Mac, you can create ringtones for FREE using GarageBand. It works with ANY song, wether purchased form iTunes or imported from CD. I found this out pretty quick after paying for 2 ringtones. I had one that didn't work, and the Apple Support guy kinda slipped up with the GarageBand tip. 🙂

Open GarageBand, click on iPhone Ringtone. Select Example Ringtone. When it opens, delete the track that's displayed. Drag the song you want from iTunes into the blank space in the middle of the GarageBand window and size it to where you want it. After you're finished, go to the top of the screen and select "Share" then "Send Ringtone to iTunes" and you're all done! 🙂

Have fun!

Yes. Use iTunes on your phone or buy on www.Tuunes.co - it's a ringtone store especially for iPhone and smartphones. Tuunes also offers an iOS app on the app store. Remixes, Sound Effects, Music etc.

I avoid ringtone apps that force me to sync with my computer, as this brought me some trouble with my library, contacts, email etc (been through that, took me two days to recover!). These apps told me that is has to be like this which is simply not true. So my recommendation is to check iTunes on your phone or try Tuunes.

Cheers!
