Question

Sync an Excel/Numbers file in both directions

I use a budget spreadsheet for my personal finances, and I would like to be able to keep it on my iPhone so that I can make changes on-the-go. Ideally, I would like the changes that I make on-the-go to be integrated directly into the spreadsheet file that is kept on my laptop.

I know that the "Spreadsheet" app will allow me to edit spreadsheets and upload them back to my computer, but I don't think it will integrate changes made on the iPhone into the laptop's spreadsheet file, or vice versa.

Is there an app that will meet this need?

Thank you for your response. Will Missing Sync integrate changes made to a spreadsheet on my iPhone into the same file stored on my computer? Or will I have to save the file under a new name when I want to place the iPhone-altered version back on my computer?

Also, I see that Missing Sync works with Fliq Docs; can Fliq Docs edit Excel/Numbers files? Or do I need "Spreadsheet" in order to edit and Fliq Docs in order to sync with Missing Sync?

Does any of that make sense?

Yes.

Can Fliq Docs edit Excel/Numbers files?

Not sure, but I believe it's just a viewer. To edit, you need something like QuickOffice.

Wonderful. One step closer to buying Missing Sync.

Or docs-togo by dataviz edits excel on iphone - new version does.

Ah ha! Documents ToGo apparently will merge changes made on iPhone with original document on desktop with the desktop Documents ToGo program.

I'm going to give it a try tonight; then I'll post if it was successful.

Documents ToGo does indeed do exactly what I want, in Excel. It cannot, however, edit Numbers files: too bad. Also, formulas must be in standard Excel format in order to work. For example, "=C4+C5" will not work, but "=SUM(C4,C5)" will work.

Syncing works over WiFi. I'd prefer an integration into iTunes sync, but I'll take WiFi. And it does merge changes made into existing file on computer.

Keep in mind that all 3rd party apps that sync files (I use eWallet for passwords) sync over WiFi and outside of iTunes. Apple has restricted what can sync over USB and what can sync via iTunes.
