Holy Cow! My Receipts folder has 1236 items in it! It should error out checking Permissions if BaseSystem.pkg isn't there... I wonder if they picked up the invisible bit?
My bad. I was at the /Users directory rather than the root. I went there and deleted the Canon packages from /Receipts and the contents of the BJ folder from /Printers/Canon/BJPrinter. On one try I deleted the /BJPrinter folder itself.
I reset the Printer Setup
I verified and repaired the volume and the permissions. Both report fine on verifications now. (There was a minor disk error; I repaired it by booting from a clone drive and using Disk Utility to fix it.)
I rebooted.
I tried reinstalled the driver from a new download of the Canon package, which takes at least 10 minutes itself.
I restarted as the install requires.
I try to add the printer, again Printer Setup sees both printers but will not find the ip1800 drivers in the Print Using>Canon drop down. It still finds the same drivers Canon BJC-XXXXXX list.
The Printer Using>Other dialog works but I don't know where Canon puts the drivers.
Running Canon IJ Printer Driver Installer Script does not take 8-9 minutes, as Canon says, but it is over 15 minutes.
I've done all this several times (at least 2 hours of work).
