Connecting Macbook Pro to Sanyo hdtv

I know there is a lot of these threads, but it seems that a lot of them say different things. I want to connect my late 2008 macbook pro to my hdtv. It is a Sanyo DP26649. I was going to purchase three things from monoprice.com:
--Mini displayport to HDMI adaptor
--HDMI 1.3a CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 3ft (Gold Plated Connectors)
--and a sound cable, but I'm not really sure which (preferably cheap)

Is this all I need? Should I get something different? Anything else?

MBP (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Check your MBP to make sure you have a miniDisplayPort and not a miniDVI port.

If it truly is a miniDisplayPort then monoprice has a miniDisplayPort-->HDMI cable and you don't actually need an adapter. Save yourself some $$.

For audio, you will need a stereo audio cable with 1/8" stereo male plug on one end (for your MBP) - the other end depends on what audio input your Sanyo has ... typically it's 2xRCA connectors (Right=Red, Left=White).

ps. you don't really need a 1.3a cable for this setup, you could save yourself some $$ with a 1.2 cable. I'd also suggest a longer cable ... 3' is pretty short.

I got the unibody 15 inch MBP for Christmas 2008 so I'm sure that it has the minidisplay.

I haven't read anything about the direct minidisplay to hdmi cable. I'm assuming it works just as well as the adapter and the hdmi cable. Unfortunately it's not in stock on monoprice so i might just get the adapter and hdmi cable.

Thanks for the input on the audio.

I chose the 1.3a cable just because it was the first one I saw. I guess there isn't a noticeable difference between the two. I'm getting the 3' cable because my tv is on my desk in my dorm (I'm in college) and its maybe a foot away from my computer

Try a Kanex MDP to HDMI adaptor (on back order@$60-$80), you can simply use a HDMI cable to connect to your HDTV, the way it should be if apple got it right.....

Actually, Monoprice has an Mini Displayport + USB audio to HDMI adapter that also only requires a single HDMI cable for both video and audio and it's only $37! Works great! But grab it now - they go fast!
