Please clarify these video size (aspect ratio) settings for videos to be delivered in a podcast formatted for iPods.

1. iPod classic. 4:3
- HD movies and 16:9 videos must be letterboxed in a 4:3 aspect ratio or
- the videos and movies are cropped when viewed on iPod classic

2. iPod Touch and iPod Nano. 16:9
No need for cropping 16:9 aspect ratio movies and videos, will display just fine.

3. What about for other media players like Zune, what aspect ratio should be used? What about for phones?

thanks all.

It will depend on the shape of the screen of the individual device. If your podcast has a wider aspect ratio than the device's screen then i would assume that it would be cropped at the sides to make the height fit the screen.

I guess my question should have been:

Can I specify different sized videos and iTunes will serve automatically based on the connected iPod device of the user?

Or should I just stick to the 16:9 HD aspect ratio?

FYI, most of the video podcasts I subscribe to are not cropped for the iPod classic's 4:3 aspect ratio anymore.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that one: you could ask in the iTunes forum.
