Question

Lanier Ricoh Printer - still can't get it to work with Snow Leopard

Does anybody know what this is and how to fix this:

Error: /Library/Printer/RICOH/Filters/jobLogFilterC failed

I get this in the "open print que" dialog box.

It could be a permissions error. Try opening the Terminal application and typing the following...

sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/RICOH/

then press the Enter key. You should be prompted for your admin password (which is your password if you are the only account on the Mac).

Now you can quit Terminal and restart the Mac to be sure. Now try printing again. Hopefully this message will not appear again.

Pahu,

I opened the Terminal application and a blank window appears.

I typed in the command you gave. I included the single spaces between the letters and symbols in your command line

The first time I did it a warning popped up about typing in the exact command or risk losing data.

I closed the window. Then went to the file menu and clicked on "New Window".

A blank window opened and I typed in your command line.
But nothing happens. There is no request for a password.

I shut down the Terminal Application.

I re-opened the Terminal App and typed in the command line but again nothing happened and no request for a password.

What should I do?

Okay, instead of using Terminal we can use Finder to see what the permissions are currently set to. So, can you open Finder and click on the Hard Drive. Then open the Library folder, then the Printers folder. You should see the RICOH folder. Select it, then click File > Get Info, and then expand the Sharing & Permissions entry. This will show what users and groups have access to this folder. Can you reply with the names and their respective privileges.

Note that with the previous Terminal commands, we were trying to add the admin group (which your main account will be a member of) to the list of accounts that have read and write access to this folder. This hopefully will stop the error message you are getting.

Hi Pahu,
I tried the Terminal Application again and this is what popped up. I added the line command you gave previously. But when it came to the password - it refuses to allow me to type my password. It just does not react in anyway other than playing dead.

So I closed the Terminal Application. I wonder why it won't allow me to type in my password?

You will not see anything in the Terminal window as you enter your password. This is a security feature. You password will be entered as you type. Just enter your password and hit the Return or Enter key.
