Mail all of a sudden won't send emails but will receive them.

I have been using Mail to receive and send emails via the server 'mail.tpg.com.au' for months. All of a sudden now when i try to send an email this message comes up:

"The sender address was rejected by the server mail.tpg.com.au. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered."

I contacted my network provider (TPG) and they don't deal with Mac and therefore could not help me. The strange thing is that i can still receive emails via this server but every time i try to send one, i keep getting the same error message.

Any ideas?

I'm having exactly the same problem with Mail, can receive but not send. All settings are correct, have not changed anything in years. All of a sudden I'm getting the message that the sender address was rejected by the server. Connection Doctor says everything is connected to the internet. I was sending emails yesterday morning from Mail until around 10:45, then things went screwy. Now I have to use webmail for sending, and it's inconvenient and frustrating. Could it be a Mail software issue?

I've had this problem before, and apparently your ISP can change their settings and you won't know it until you try to send/receive emails. The first thing to do is to call your email service provider and ask them for their settings. Compare them to what you have, and you will probably see a discrepancy. I've experienced this at least 3 times in the past, and each time it was a change of settings by the email service provider.

From what I read at the link below, it would appear that your provider may be in the midst of changes, including some facility to use authentication on the SMTP -- this would probably be added to allow sending when not connected via this ISP:

Note that the message can come when sending to distribution lists larger than 50, although nothing you have reported would point to that -- only probable changes in progress.

I thought that all my settings were correct because I had not made any changes at all. When trying to send mail, the messages were staying in the outbox. When I called my ISP and got their settings, they were different than what I had. Once I changed them, the emails immediately left the outbox and were on their way! Also ask them if they use SSL or not.

Thanks for the link to the forum Ernie... looks like lots of others are having the same problem. I tried their suggestion to change the server to smtp.tpg.com.au but it didn't make a difference.
Do you think that if TPG are in the midst of changes that they would realise that it will disturb the sending of emails? I guess I just play a waiting game and hope it will get fixed?

I am having the same problem. It seems to have appeared with the last Mail update. The weird thing is that some internet connections will allow me to send (including tethering to an iphone), but many others won't. This is the first time in years that I have had trouble with mail. I have contacted my ISP and the info is the same.

I REALLY need a fix for this as I do all my work through e-mail.
