I was trying to record through a mixer and I think there was feedback. Then i started hearing a popping, ticking noise and it keeps going. It is preventing me from recording anymore because it's not picking up anything played on guitar or mic. My midi keyboard still comes through though. It's continuos like a metronome and it changes a bit when you adjust the recording level. Ive tried changing input settings and nothing works. It only makes sound if I have the 1/4 jack adapter in.
its an old peavey mixer. I had it it plugged in with a adapter into the input jack. It was working fine, but i accidently raised either the volume to loud or the EQ setting on the mixer to high and got feedback. After this it made a continuos ticking sounds. It's not picking up anything thats plugged anymore because when you do plug something in the ticking comes back.
its a powered mixer. whenever i plug in something into the input jack it does the clicking. I used to record my guitar like this and it dosent pick up guitar. This was the first time i used the mixer on my laptop, my friend has used the same one in his Mac and its worked fine.
Thank God I found someone with the same issue, its hilarious because i did the exact same thing with a powered peavey mixer and I blew my sound card too. M question is since the guy above said to NEVER use the speakers out, how Im I supposed to record to my mac through the mixer. And do y'all know how I can get my input fixed so I can continue recording!

do you know what I can do to get my sound card working or at least how much its gonna cost to get it fixed?
since there is no card, you're likely talking about a motherboard replacement, probably $500 at a minimum. it might make more sense to get an (external) audio interface:

do you mean the main out? thats what mine has
without the console in front of me, i don't know, it might be. typically the main outs are used to drive the power amps, so WOULD be line-level, but check your manual to be sure.
