Mounting a Seagate 7200.7 hard drive on a Mac Mini
My G5 1.6GHz machine is dead. The power supply is bad or the motherboard is blown. I want to get my data off the Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Hard drive. I just bought a Mac Mini. Can I convert my old hardrive to an external drive and use the USB or firewire interface to mount the drive? Will I be able to migrate over my iTunes library using this method? Does anyone have any enclosure recommendations if my ideas will work? thanks.
I put my old Mac G5 HD in a newertechnology miniStack v2.5 enclosure. I was able to migrate my old accounts from the old HD and I can now use this is an an external drive. I like the enclosure, lots of USB ports and it looks great with my new mac mini. I can even run apps from my old system.
The only minor issue is that I am unable to deauthorize my iTunes music from my old machine. However, this is no big deal as my music is authorized on just two machines: my dead G5 and my new mini.
