switch users/accounts in snow leopard

switch users/accounts in snow leopard

i have a visitor coming to my house today and i am trying to figure out how to switch users. i followed all the instructions on the site about checking the necessary boxes in system preferences/accounts. however, my icon in the menu bar and the login window continue to only give 1 option for logging in: me. how can i do fast switch user or fix this problem? thank you.

macbookpro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Which instructions on which site? Please provide some
more detail as to exactly what you did.

i followed the instructions on help to a "t." i checked all the boxes it told me to check as per this document:

I assume that you have more than one account created?
The article you reference doesn't say anything about
creating another account.

When you click on your username on the top right of the menu
bar, what options do you see?

i only see my name and this is the problem. before i upgraded i could choose between 2 users there.

Do you also see the "Login Window" and "Account Preferences" options?

yes, i do. and i tried going to that login window to switch users, but it doesn't give me any choices. it is just my avatar and then i am only allowed the option of affirming that identity.

If you have your login window display as username and password, are
you able to login as the second user?
