I don't get a confirmation e-mail for my itunes/appstore account

Hi all,

I have a new iPhone and wanted to register for an app-store (itunes account, respectively). The user was created and there was e message like "click the link in the verification email you got".
The problem is that I did not get this e-mail (I am waiting since 4 days). I also tried (in itunes) to resend-confirmation mail. It always says tha the email wa sent, but I don't get one.
I have a gmail account and the confirmation mail is not in the spam folder ( I checked that).
How do I get my account activated?
