Garageband and Snow Leopard disk too slow errors

Since i installed Snow Leopard on my Imac (24", 4GB, 2,4 Ghz.) i get the 'disk too slow' error many times, even if i have two or three simultaneous tracks running. That's ridiculous. On Leopard i never had any problems. I record on an external harddrive connected by firewire 800 and i use an edirol FA66 as an external sounddevice. I already set the recording settings for making the most tracks (i never had to do that on Leopard). Is there anybody else having these problems since Snow Leopard?

I don't have an esata drive, i have a firewire 800 drive, that should be more than enough speed. It certainly is a major bug. It's frustrating , my G4 powerbook 12" performs better almost!
What helps is to lock some of the tracks, but that's not an option when you're busy making music...

well, i hope there will be an update soon!

Same computer and same problems...i also had to come back to leopard (cause line 6 products don't recognize snow leopard) and it's the same, same errors...i REALLY don't know what to do anymore...it's depressing. Both in Logic and Garageband: two tracks open with VST or whatever, and there it is: disk is too slow error 10002 or something like that...
Anyone got news?

I have seen this message a few times but its always disappeared quickly and has never stopped me from using GB. I have just finished a demo which has 15 tracks of both software instruments and audio with no issues. I am using a 2ghz white macbook with OSX 10.5.8. I am recording to the system drive. I also always have 1/2 dozen other programs open at the same time including Mail and Safari. I do not have my Time Machine HD attached though. I have encountered a couple of glitches where a newly recorded track disappears and not being able to record in the same track but from a different start point. The glitches seem immature, like they are basic fundamental ones rather than weird exotic clashes with 3rd party AU's. BTW, I have never had issues with other sequencer, Ableton Live.

Not to disrespect your input, but this discussion is about the GB errors in OSX 10.6.2... with OSX 10.5.8 i had absolutely no problems at all recording multiple audio (guitar)tracks....

Point being the disk too slow errors are there in 10.5. They are not as bad as some Snow Leopard users are getting, but the problem is not new to SL.

Seem as if this Problem is not only affecting Garageband.
I have the same problem with EyeTv on the Mac mini after I installed Snow Leopard.
The Data Stream from the External USB HD was behaving erratic resulting in timeouts and skipped frames. Sometimes the USB TV Adapter would just stop during live view.
Since I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and the newest version of EyeTV at the same time I was unsure as to what was causing the problem.
I have reverted back Leopard and everything is now running fine as before even with the newest version of EyeTV installed.
So my guess is that Snow Leopard had an issue with my USB hardware.

I see you are using external drives with GB. We just bought a bunch of .wav loops and want to use them in GB, but store them on external drive. When we drop the files in the loop browser, they automatically copy them to the internal drive - no option given to keep them indexed to external drive. This will take up too much space on the internal drive. There is obviously something we are missing. Any suggestions? And when importing into GB, what is the best way to do so to keep them organized in the correct categories?
Thanks!

Mike-8 said:::+I opened a new project with one track. Recorded a speaker and after 12 minutes "disc too slow" came up. I clicked OK and kept recording. After re-opening the project at home, ONLY the 1st 12 minutes where there I saw it record 45minutes, but .... ???+

Yeah mate I had exactly the same problem today. I was recording with my samson mic.

about 3 minuets in BG says the disc is slow. I clicked continue and it kept recording (in red) I saved and went off to do something else when i checked the file there was only 3 minutes worth of footage. it was a very important interview I lost. Someone at Apple must have a solution for this surely?

Same problem experienced on OS x 10.5 on a G4 PowerBook, Garage Band 09 and the Blue Mic Yeti microphone. I got a minute of recording. Then got the error, which I dismissed and allowed recording to continue. After done recording I scrolled back to playback and noticed that all the recording I saw after the error appeared were gone! This is very disturbing.
