compressing video to send in an email

Question

compressing video to send in an email

hi,

is it possible to compress a video clip so i can send it in an email and if so, how do i go about doing this please? also will the person be able to decompress the file if they use windows and not mac?

ibook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

It depends on the format of the original clip. Many formats are already compressed and cannot be compressed any further without degrading quality. If you don't mind lossy compression, there are many tools from iMovie to Handbrake. The best one to use depends on the format of the original clip.

Hi,

thx for reply.it was taken from my iphone. the clip is about 1 min 30 secs long and about 12 MB in size. is that kind of file already compressed? if all else fails i might just make another clip less than 10 MB so i can email it to the recipient.

You could upload the file to [YouSendIt|http://www.yousendit.com> or [Screencast|http://www.screencast.com> and send the recipient a link to download the file...

or Right click (control click) on the file and from the drop down menu select *Compress "the name of your file".m4v* this should compress it to approx 10MB.

The recipient could download [Quicktime|http://www.apple.com/quicktime> to watch the video.(not sure if any windows player supports .m4v)
