I've been dutifully archiving my many mailboxes for years now… and it just occurred to me, I don't know what to do w/ them!

I'm kindof afraid if I double click on them, they'll re-install themselves in Mail (many of these folders, I archived, and then deleted from Mail).

Dumb question, maybe… but help?

if you archived them using the archive mailbox function in Mail then you need to import an archive into mail to use it. that's done using File menu->import mailboxes. it will be imported in a separate mailbox in "on my mac" section.

But then I can delete it from Mail after I'm done, right? And it won't delete the archive… ?

of course. you can delete individual messages or the whole imported mailbox.

    And it won't delete the archive… ?

this will have no effect on the archive.

    One more Quick Question:

What about attachments? Do they get archived too?

And, if they do, do they get re-opened as well?

    yes.

not sure what you mean. if you import the archive back in mail all the messages will be there with the attachments.
