Landscape Duplex Printing Upside Down

I am trying to print a tri-fold brochure using Pages '09 (I think the problem occurred in '08 as well). The pages come out as if I selected long edge binding (that is, Page 2 is upside down) regardless of whether I select long edge or short edge binding. In other words, the choice of short edge binding seems to have no effect. I have had this problem in 10.5 as well as 10.6 & with 2 different printers (a Canon & an HP), both of which support duplex printing. I am having the same problem when trying to print the document using Preview. The print preview & the pdf look right but don't print right. Please help.

We have the same problem - but with ID CS6.03 or 6.0.4 (doesn´t matter).
Since upgrading our Macs to OS 10.6 in Sept 09 we have encountered the problem with duplex printing from ID CS4 (choosing menu option "make broschure ..." in Indesign) to our HP CLJ 9500n. When we are printing a document with A3 pages as spreads, hence in landscape orientation. Printing one-sided is fine but with duplex the left half of the left hand page of the spread is cut off.
All computers still using 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 will print out duplex prints on a HP CLJ 9500n correctly (we handle it as described in forums "Defined by driver" earlier this year - which will work fine).
Can´t be Adobe and. To my eyes the problem toggle between the new printing drivers and 10.6 or 10.6.1 - when using an old HP driver duplex printing will work (but not properly fine).

Is there any solution in sight?

We'll investigate this. If we find a problem with Pages or with the printing system in general we'll report it to Apple. Gandalf99, can you point to a specific document, or provide steps on how to create a document that reproduces the problem. neuegestaltung, I believe while you are seeing similar symptoms, this is a separate problem. It could be with the print driver or with InDesign. In any event we'll track it down and get the problem to the right place.

Just trying to help.

I have been having this problem since upgrading to firstly 10.5 and this week 10.6.1. I use a Photosmart C6810 with the Duplex attachment. I also cannot now use Duplex printing for portrait style when trying to print documents. This happens whether I am using Pages 08 or Microsoft Word (Office for Mac). I contacted HP Support today and they took !5.95 off me, then said that there was an issue not yet resolved, with Duplex printing and Snow Leopard and they didn't know then the patch' would come out so gave me my money back!
If anyone has found a way to solve this I would be delighted to hear of it.

Andrew,

Thanks for pursuing this. I initially wrote because I had had the problem (printing a trifold brochure) in the past & on this occasion had tried everything to resolve it. Subsequently, i shut down my computer & when I tried again the next day, it worked! I don't know what causes the problem, nor what fixes it, but it is fixed at the moment.

I have had a similar problem printing a portrait document (a sign in sheet). I say similar because I don't know if this is a bug or not. After numerous attempts to get a 1 page document to print 2 copies back-to-back w/long edge binding, I had no luck. So I copied the document so that it is now a 2 page document. With a 2 page document, I can print w/long edge binding and it works fine.

So at the moment, unless it happens again, I'm all set. Thanks again for your offer of help.

Dear Andrew,

we just upgraded to 10.6.2 and found any solution to our problem. We determinded the problem and found out that it has nothing to do with Indesign. And - it can´t be the printer driver. We tried older printer driver v. 4.3.5.153 - while working with Mac OS X 10.5.8, it refused working under 10.6 or 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 The new printer driver 5.4 (coming with hp printing driver 2.2 package at apples support page) won´t work either. So the only solution must be a problem within the printing architecture of OS X 10.6
If this will help I have a taken a photo of the typical printing error (using duplex printing). Are you interested in seeing that image?
