Record a 3 hour live webcast video & audio

Can QT record a webcast? If yes, how? I don't see the controls for recording. If no, then what is "the program" to use? I have been searching several discussions and programs but nothing seems to be a for sure solution unless I am recording from a camera or DVD or only want audio. I have Final Cut Express HD that I bought February 2007 and never opened but don't see that it has recording capability. I need to record video & audio of a webcast coming over the net and I only have a couple hours left to get this working.
ThankU for any help

Thanks Kirk, I saw something about this mentioned before once but was looking to see if something I had or that is less expensive would work.
About how much storage space would 3 hours of AV webcast recording need? How much does the application need? I'm running ow on HD space & am working a solution for that as well. I just need to know how much of an immediate solution I need.
ThankU

It would depend on the resolution (dimensions) of the file, the frame rate, the codecs used during capture and the amount of compression.
There is no "rule of thumb" for screen recording because the options are so variable and, since your source is "live", you don't have the option for reducing the file size until the capture is complete.
Sounds like you nee more storage space before you begin.

How much hard drive space do you have???

Depending on the dimensions (xy), acquisition codec and final codec for the video your looking at some major hard drive space.

I believe Snapz Pro X uses acquisition codec and then transcodes that video to a final codec/format. IShowU is another screen capture program. It transcodes on the fly, major CPU usage. (I have both of these programs.)

This is something to should have been setup and tested a few days ago. All you need is a small hiccup during recoding and you'll end up with nothing but garbage at the end of the recording. If you recoded to your system hard drive and fill it up during recoding you could run into some problems with you system hard drive. I wouldn't advise recording to your system hard. Recoding to a USB external hard drive won't cut the mustard, to slow. You'll need something like a external 800 firewire hard drive.

Three hours of recoding won't be a easy task.

I appreciate your inputs. I have about 10GB free right now. I am about to save some files to somewhere else (CD, DVD, external HD). I am also inquiring the possibility of partitioning my active Time Machine to use as space for some of the files. It is a 1T WD external HD with plenty of space. I don't have a firewire that I know of. My backup plan is to just set up my JVC HDD Everio to record from a tripod. It will be better than nothin.

I have an opportunity to try this tonight. Well, I would much prefer to accomplish it tonight. I have another webcast through LiveMeeting, but I think the sound must be received by dialing in through a phone. I have a magicJack and, while magicJack no longer allows calling to non-magicJack conference call numbers, I should be able to 3-way through my iPhone or another phone to get the sound on my MBP through the magicJack to be recorded simultaneously with the video side through LiveMeeting.
Can Snapz record from a LiveMeeting webcast and magicJack? What about VLC and Persian?
Thanks

I've never used the applications available to you so my answers could be wrong.
SnapZ can record (audio and video) of any source that plays back on your computer (except "protected" media sources).
It lets you set the "dimensions" of the capture area. A "window" or an "area" on the sceen. You can change the size of the capture (lower file size) by changing the Display settings on your machine.
At 800X600 Display resolution the capture area would be very large resulting in a large file size. At 1920X1200 (my iMac settings) the capture area would be much smaller.

Perian is a codec pack that allows playback of various videos that QT does not natively support ( AVI files and Flash mainly) and doesn't record anything.

If you want to record a 3 hour conference and do a good job get Snapz Pro. You can try QTX and stop the recording every 30 minutes (makes a new file when you restart) you can try that but I'd practice first. The VLC option is another idea but again, try it first.
