Unable to connect to AIM

Hi

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.

Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

I've been having the same problem for the past week or so. Have also been experiencing audio dropouts since the upgrade to Snow Leopard. Noticed Apple is addressing some iChat issues in the upcoming 10.6.2 upgrade. Sure hope this helps.

For iChat 5 you will have to do it like.

And it could be just AIM servers playing up as there is now 4 posts about this prob today in different forums.

I also tried to change the ports, as mentioned in this thread but that didn't work.

Try changing server name and ports to see if this helps, just curious...... this worked for me.

Server name: kdc.uas.aol.com

port: 443

Getting the same error yesterday and today. Using Google Chat buddy accounts to initiate video works fine. AIM servers must be wonky, but is anyone paying attention?!?!

Hey there, I'm having problem with connecting to AIM on a PC via iChat on my mac. I'm trying to change the port to 443 but it won't stick! Every time I move out of the box where I entered the port number the greyed out 5190 comes back! What can I do?

i use the same passsword-it works fir most apps-but i can't get inti ichat-even when i set a new password (w/the same password) it still doesn't work. do i have to pay and go to apple care?

I am not sure I fully understand you question.

Are you saying that you AIM (Or Apple ID) Screen Name account uses the same password as you use elsewhere ?

Or do you mean you have your Mac set up to ask for a Password when opening an Application and this password is not working ?

I would expect iChat to ask for the password of the Account/Screen Name so it can Login if that is not stored in you Keychain rather than any other password.

If you are using an @mac.com name or a @me.com Screen Name the password can be set at more than 16 characters but if it is over this limit it will not work with the AIM servers.
