no line-in option in Sound pref?

I was going to use Garageband with my guitar, and noticed that I lost my line-in option in the Sound preference pane, it only lists the internal mic. I have used it before, but have no idea what happened. My system profile says:

I contacted the OnyX developer, but it's not related to that utility since it is spelled with a capital X.

Has anyone seen this, and is there a way to fix this?
