zte m 636 modem on mac book pro mac os tiger not workings

Hi guys, i just got a zte 636 modem for mobile internet and try to install on my mac book pro with mac os tiger 10.4.11, well i got the exact driver for this device but when i try to connect to internet, it seems to do some negotiation and hand shaking with my service provider, but it always deisconnect and i got a mac os erros wich says:

"It's impossible to negotiatie a conection with the remote ppp server check your settings and try again"

Here is the exact message in spanish:

"ha sido imposible negociar una conexion con el servidor ppp remoto compruebe los ajustes e intentelo de nuevo"

i tried my modem on a windows machine and works fine, no problem at all, any ideas what would be happening here?

Hi,
Sorry I just came across this thread a little late. The 636 will not work with Mac as you have discovered. You need the ZTE 626 which is available from Movistar only by special request, not part of their regular catalog. See Christopher at the Movistar store in Centro Comercial Cumbaya, he has helped other clients with this problem. Good luck.

I managed to connect using my zte mf 636 on my mac (osx 10.5.7). I'm also in Ecuador, movistar, so this info might help. I guess this post is a bit old, but I'm sure there's other people looking for a solution, so I'll post just in case:

First I installed the Connection manager for mac from this site: http://www.zte.com.au/main/ProductDownloads/MF636downloads.htm
I think that installs the drivers for mac for the modem (although I'm not completely sure this step is necessary). It also install an connection app, which for us ecuadorians is useless.

Then, you go to system preferences>network. Select ZTEUsbModem and click on advanced:
in the modem tab, chose "generic" for vendor, "gprs gsm/3g" for model and "navega.movistar.ec" for apn. click ok.
Then, on telephone number use *99#, account name movistar and password movistar.

Hit connect and it should work. At least it did for me.

I hope that helps

Hi,
do you know if the ZTE MF636 will work on snow leopard (10.6.2)?
I still don't understand what has to be installed and how.
Is there a specific driver that has to be installed for SL? Is this how OS X recognize the stick as a modem?
Then there should be a "connection manager" or some sort of app to get connected to Movistar mobile Internet? Is this app mandatory or I can connect using network preferences for dialing?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

by the way my carrier is Movistar Argentina.

best,
