Emails Notifcation show double the amount of emails that are unread

Hello
I am very clueless on this issue i have tried everything i can think of, but since i have upgrade awhile back from 3.0 to 3.1 and now 3.1.2 i have had the same issue. When i receive 1 email it will show on my email icon as 2. I have reset the phone reinstalled the OS nothing fixes it. I havent taken it to a Apple store yet as there is not one close and i have to get time off work to go. Any options people....

This happened to me once when my iPhone added a duplicate e-mail account of its own accord. Took me ages to work out why the counter was reading the wrong number of unread e-mails. I deleted one of the accounts and the problem was solved.

HI,

You didn't mention which e-mail client you use. If it's Mac Mail, open the Mail application.

From the Menu Bar, click Mailbox / Rebuild. This can take several minutes.

Restart your Mac, then Restart your iPhone.

To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments. Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
