DVD Player "Skip over damaged area"

When I watch a DVD using the DVD player, "skipping over damaged area" will come up on the top left side of the screen and everything stops, then the little rainbow thingy comes on the screen and just spins. This happens about every 15 minutes or so, regardless of which DVD I have playing. I end up having to force quit the DVD player so I can remove it and check for damage or anything (usually finding nothing). It gets kind of frustrating having to quit the program every time this happens. I hoped it would go away when .1 came out but it didn't. Is this something that I just have to deal with, or is there some other free DVD software I can use? I tried looking some up, but I've had no luck. Thanks

I have begun having the same problem with various commercial DVDs including brand new ones, freshly opened and played. My problems also began with the Snow Leopard upgrade. This has happened on everything from new Big Bang Theory DVDs to older movie DVDs including the Casablanca anniversary release. The DVds are from different studios and production companies.

I've also begun to have problems with the cursor interacting with the DVD navigation with the Castle Season 1 DVD that arrived today.

I'm currently running 10.6.2 on an MBP:
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz MBP

Since my nearest Apple Store is 90 miles away, taking it to the Genius Bar involves some planning. Has anyone else experienced a problem playing commercial DVDs and if so, has anyone identified what the problem/s is/are?

Thanks!
