Do the new iMacs have Blu Ray playability?

You can connect a blu-ray player to it and use its screen but thats it for now. Same with DVD player, xBox etc.

Its a new feature never before seen on an iMac and I don't think many people are aware of it. It will be amazing image quality, better than most TV's.

I saw more on it somewhere else where they specifically mention connecting DVD players, Blu-ray players, XBox, and PC o Macs to the imac and use its screen but I can't find it right now.

ok i understand hooking up a blu ray player to your imac. but why would hook up a dvd player or xbox either one will only play regular dvd's which the imac is more than capable of doing.

You would hook up an XBox to play XBox games on your iMac screen. DVD players not so much interest but an external DVD players has alot more features than the one that comes with your Mac. A PS3 would be nice. You could game on your iMac screen and watch blu-ray movies with one device.

Another welcome "sea change" for the iMac. I'm sort of blown away right now. It's like the light really turned on at Apple.

There is some debate on whether the currently available adapters will work or not. That Belkin definately will not, at least by itself, since you will need a MiniDisplay Port on one end. I've ordered the 27" iMac and a Mini Display > HDMI adapter from Monoprice (http://tinyurl.com/c3kofa) and I'm crossing my fingers. The adapter was $9, so if it doesn't work, no tears. Success or failure will be determined by whether or not the iMac can detect and do the video signal conversion internally since Display Port handles video signals much differently than HDMI/DVI. I'm hoping it works, I would love to hook up the XBox to it.

What is Apple's problem with incorporating a Blu Ray drive into the new iMac, especially with the new 27" screen as Blu Ray is now the defacto for HD Movies.I watch Blu Ray on my 24" iMac as I installed Windows Vista x64 using bootcamp and an external Liteon Blu Ray drive.

The problem is Apple does not like the licensing(required DRM lockdown-my guess).
Steve publicly stated blu-ray licensing was "a bag of hurt".
