iphone 3g stuck on apple logo and a status bar

i was trying to update my iphone 3G and something went wrong. all i have on the screen is an apple logo and an empty status bar. i tried linking it up with itunes but it doesn't show up on itunes. nothing happens when i hold the off button or the on button... i'm in serious need of help!!! i don't want my iphone to just be a paper weight! HELP!!!!!

ok plug into itunes and hold the power button and the home button down at the same time till itunes says that it has found a phone in restore mode then follow the onscreen promts to restore your phone. you might try holding the power button and the home button down not pluged in that is a hard reset if that dont work then do the restore. good luck.
