When I burn a CD, it burns correctly to a CD-r disk, however, it will not play anywhere except on my computer.

You're still not quite answering the question.

Put it this way: if you burn a CD in the Finder (e.g. by copying audio files to the blank CD) then the Finder will copy the files as files. That is, it will make a Data CD with the files on to transfer to another computer. These types of CDs are not compatible with audio players which can only handle Audio CDs.

Instead, you need to use iTunes to create an Audio CD. You do this by first importing the tracks into iTunes, then making a new playlist with those tracks (File -> New playlist from Selection).
From here you can select the playlist in the sidebar and click the Burn Disk button in the bottom left corner. Make sure you choose 'Audio CD' from the options dialog that appears. This should make a CD that's compatible with other audio players.

Are you sure that you are using CD-R and not CD-RW media? Most home audio CD players cannot read CD-RW discs, even if they have been burned with the correct audio format.

Have you tried burning at a lower speed?

...and you are absolutely sure that when you used iTunes to burn the CD, that you chose "Audio CD" and not one of the other types, right?
