    Just spoke with apple support. The word is that it is an issue with the graphics card. They've escalated the issue and hopefully a software update is forthcoming.

    THANK YOU for this info! I've had this same prob. for 4 days since I got this 27 last Friday. Thought I was going crazy in the head. I hit the power button twice and it stopped the prob. Now can we have a FIX?? C'mon Apple, we spend tons of $$ on new products and this is what we get?

    I have a few questions for those of you experiencing this issue:

    What build of Mac OS X 10.6.1 is running on your machine? (Apple menu > About This Mac > click on Version)
    Did you migrate anything from a different computer when you got this one?
    What version of Shockwave Flash is installed? (Safari > Help menu > Installed plug-ins)

    1) OSX 10.6.1 10A2155
    2) I just booted it up and used the migration assistant (from within a booted OS) to move my old documents/data, etc. Doing it from a CD boot and a time machine restore seems to always cause problems.

    Used migration to copy my stuff from 20" imac with no problems. I haven't re-booted since I put it to sleep and back last night at about this time. No runaways yet.

    Same issue with my new iMac 21.5.

    Snow Leopard 10A2155 and Flash player r32 as the others. Nothing migrated.

    Contrary to some reports here I seem to have only issues with Flash - if I avoid that while browsing or anything else, everything seems fine.

    Actually I am looking for the build number of OS X 10.6.1. Where you got the version number, click on the word "Version" and you should see a build number.

    I have the same problem. I opened a ticket and they had me return it to the store. New computer has the same problem. They submitted the ticket to the engineering department but it will take 5 days for them to respond. Anyone who has this problem please report it. The more people report it the faster they will respond to this issue. The guy at the store did look at my errors in my console log and seen some video errors. So it is a driver issue. But the more people who report this issue the higher the priority it will be.

    Agreed. All of these fixes with repairing disk permissions, pram, etc, are just causing the symptoms to go away because users are checking it out after a fresh boot. Remember, this problem goes away if you simply sleep your mac for a second and wake it up.

    I too opened a ticket with engineering. From what I understand they are very eager to fix this issue. And yeah, it's some Video Card wackness.

    I just opened a repair ticket on Apple.com myself.. hopefully that will help everyone get a solution quicker. If I get any further information when they call me in the morning, I will post it here.

    I just called Apple support and they had me do all kind of stuff, which I reluctantly did though I've done it already. They also made me remove the flash plug-in and install it from scratch, downloading it from Adobe's website. I hadn't done this but read some here had unsuccessfully. But I did, and it worked!

    I had severe slow-downs after having browsed Flash-heavy websites. The slowness persisted even after quitting Safari. Now, having installed the Flash plug-in again, everything works great.

    Hope it does for you as well.

    I just got off the phone with Apple Support. They listened while I told them of the problem and all the fixes we all have tried... He wants me to do some testing. I'm going to run Safari in 32 bit mode to see if it still spikes the CPU, and we created a 'Test' user to see if it happens in the other user. They also had me send information about my computer (logs and such from System Profiler) and he said he could see things crashing in there, something they will work on and look at - For All Of Us.

    I am hopeful and confident they will find a solution to this incompatibility between our Safari and Flash Player on these new computers. I will also post here any fixes I am made aware of, just to make sure we all have it as quick as possible.

    Thank you everyone for all the help you have been thus far... in particular the short-cut of sleeping my computer rather than restarting it to wind down my CPU.

    I will continue to post my progress, although I've been running Safari with my Flash Game up in 32 bit and have not had the spike yet. Only time will tell... sometimes it doesn't happen for a couple of hours.
