Disk Utility's Checksum has no MD5/SHA1 options

Disk Utility's Checksum has no MD5/SHA1 options

Hi,

After upgraded (actually a fresh install) to 10.6, I found that the Disk Utility's checksum feature only has CRC-32 but no MD5 nor SHA1. Does anyone know what could be the cause and how could I enable MD5 and SHA1? Any idea is appreciated. Thanks!

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Try CheckSum 1.5:
http://download.cnet.com/Checksum/3000-2247_4-26300.html

or
Open terminal.app
at the prompt type:
shasum /path/to/file
#replace "/path/to/file" with the actual path#
#you can use finder to drag and drop the file into the terminal window#
press return

Thanks for the response. I did try the command line md5. However, I was trying to verify the checksum of a mounted volume, and the md5 command gave me an error saying that what I tried to verify is a directory.
