Elgato EyeTV

I don't know if my question fits in this list...

At home I have digital TV using a Humax receiver with a Smartcard (ZIGGO). I want to record tv shows so I was looking for:
a) a HD /DVD recorder;
b) a digital receiver with an option to record

But since all electronic devices are ugly, I thought: why not use my MacBook....It has a harddrive and a DVD recorder and looks great.

I found the website of Elgato and their EyeTV devices. My question is:"What product fits my needs?"

I need to connect the Elgato to my digital receiver, since I cannot wath tv (or record) without using the (ZIGGO)smartcard. I want to record tv shows or movies to my MacBook.

Macbook 13", Mac OS X (10.5.7), created two accounts on my macbook. Sharing Itunes library and Iphoto. Ext HD

what outputs are you wanting to record from on your devices? the EyeTV devices will capture HD DVB-T, but the way you'll have to hook up your ziggo would be SD I think. & I also don't think you'll be able to schedule like you can the braodcast content, it's a more manual process as in you have to be there to push the record button...

you might need 2 devices. a tuner & input device that supports HD. on the macbook, the blackmagic device is your only option for HD. there isn't an HDMI input card for you unless you buy a Mac Pro. for the tuner, make sure it supports the broadcast in your country. I have the elgato hybrid but interested in picking up a Tube Stick: http://www.equinux.com/us/products/tubestick/tuningmap.html

This is the one

Not much connections (21th century), as you can see.

Perhaps it could work by connecting Elgato EyeTV with an adapter to the scart.

Maybe stupid....Could it work if I connect some device to my tv set? I got a brand new TV with most connections. Are there devices that can be connected to (for instance) a HDMI connection and make the MacBook work as a HD recorder?

NOTE: I changed the subject.

sorry, I wish providers wouldn't be so restrictive or soo worried about piracy...

your box is new enough, so adapters should work. Don't know who sells or what's available in your area, but I did find this pg: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/sctoco.html

the problem is that if the tv has output at all, it's only going to be SD. HDMI input on the mac isn't possible unless you have a Mac Pro, the PCIe HDMI card & the content isn't copy protected. with the worries over people recording & then posting the stuff online, capability of recording your content in this matter is difficult.

if you want to record HD, you'll have to find an SCART to Component (RGB) converter & the Black Magic Design USB device which will input the signal. the elgato devices only do Svideo & composite input.

The Elgato video capture comes with an scart adapter, but can it record TV from the Humax...And if so, can you program your computer to record at a specific time from a specific chanel?

I also found this device:

http://www.terratec.net/en/products/technical-data/produktetechnische_daten_en91147.html# (appr USD 150)

I believe it needs an Alphacrypt CI CAM (USD 100). For these amounts it would be better to buy a HD/DVD recorder.
