Removing spelling red underline in Numbers '08

the red underline for spelling is distracting and not needed. how do you get rid of it?

Go to Edit > Spelling > Check Spelling as You Type.

another question is how to get a number "9,999" and not "$9,999".

The only think I can think of is to make sure it's formatted as number, not currency.
