Stilts, so sorry to hear your machine finally arrived, but damaged in shipping. I too hope you will take the route of returning the iMac to an Apple Store for them to replace the cracked glass if that is the only problem. Hoping you are still with us a few more days!
    ordered iMac 27" i7-860 quad 2.8GHz, 2TB SATA, 16GB RAM, ATI 4850 512MB, Mac OS X (10.5.8), iPhone 3G 16GB, Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz, PowerMac G5 Dual 2 GHz RIP

Stripyhorse: "I was told that there where a few manufacturing problems with the high-spec i7???????? But people are receiving them? They said that even on-line orders are having delays now."

As I said recently, this may be a case where getting the machine a little later than expected may be a blessing.

I don't care when I get it as much as I care about it be as flawless as possible. Reading the posts in the iMac Display area is unsettling as I compare every problem n the new iMacs with my old 23" Apple Cinema Display HD (in that somewhat dated looking clear plastic stand) that has been perfect for almost six years now.

    Hey Rick

****, you're right again. That's what I was told, mind you. I have no way of knowing if this is correct. You know, there are so many different issues going around. Broken screens, flickering screens, long waiting times for those who ordered through re-sellers and so on. But yes, you are correct. If there are problems, they might as well sort it out first, rather than sending us a dodgy machine. I have currently a Power Mac G5. It has served me very well ( and will continue doing ). The thing is always on, I never turn it off. I hope that my new iMac will be the same.
Thanks Rick for putting me straight again.

Thanks for your kind words man. I actually didn't know taking it to an Apple Store was an option? The lady on the phone (Apple online customer services) just said I could refund or replacement, if they could fix it at a store I would probably go for that. But, there are several very large cracks and a couple of points of impact where what looks like a sharp object has struck the screen, I would be surprised if there is not further damage underneath?

Seems like all of us who ordered an iMac i7 BTO on the 15th with expedited shipping are getting the 1-Dec ship date and 4-Dec receive date. This was right around when Apple changed the delivery time from "November" to "7-10 Business Days". 1-Dec is one day outside the 10 business day window. One person who ordered on the 14th just had their order change to "prepared for shipment" on the 23rd, so hopefully it isn't much longer for us. I'll post another note when mine is ready to ship.

So here's my question to you. I also received a damage quad core. Apple told me theyd contact me this week with a resolution. It would make sense to request a refund possibly if the black friday promotions are that good

Well, after 187 hours of sitting in Shanghai, it has finally departed. I won't know if it's DOA or has those display issues until Monday. It's being shipped to work, and no one will be there until Monday so the local UPS office is holding it until then. I would have them deliver it to my home, but they won't change the shipping address unless it has at least one failed delivery attempt at the original address (something they won't get since they're holding it..). With all the issues reported on here, hopefully it comes in one piece and flicker/dead pixel proof.

    Good luck to everyone else.

Mine hasn't just sat in Shanghai. What a boring life yours must lead! Mine (according to UPS) left Shanghai and flew gracefully to Cologne in Germany. Not much help to me in Brighton, UK, but I digress. After sitting around there for a while it then decided to go back to Shanghai and doss around for a couple of days. It obviously then thought the better of it and went on a north-easterly trip to South Korea. It then raced back to Cologne. Clearly thinking that it might as well "do Europe" it nipped across to Warsaw, Poland. Having stayed there a day it returned to Cologne.

I am just wondering when this wayward new ward of mine will arrive on British soil.

My i5 is slipping through my fingers.

Order 16th of Nov, got shipping notice on the 22nd advising delivery on the 27th (this Friday!).

    But...

At Pudong Airport status was changed to 'Connection Delay' - been that way for two days nows...getting nervous.

Wow, that's quite the journey. Hopefully all of that handling didn't cause any damage... or maybe they just messed up the tracking? I'd hope for the latter... it really doesn't make sense to send your package on that world tour.

I can only hope my iMac has had a boring life and not jarred around while sitting in China. It's been there since the 17th, bumped from two airplanes, and cleared customs before it even reached US soil.

Since then, no news at all.
It is still supposed to arrive 25th November if the delivery date given on the UPS website is right.

Mine was scanned on November 21st and since then no movement. Scheduled arrival is 26th but I doubt it will make it here by that time. I hope it just sits in cushioned warehouse waiting for direct flight to Toronto.

I have just learned that ABT.com has the 27" 2.8Ghz i7, iMac in stock. This machine has 8GB of RAM installed. The price is $2399 with no tax and free shipping... which is what I paid Apple for my undelivered i7 with 4GB of RAM. I called Apple to cancel, but they said "to late" despite the fact that it has not shipped from China yet. All of those who are waiting and may be able to cancel:
