iChat Webcam not working right?!?

I am having the exact same problem. I was web camming successfully with friends and then began having this problem a couple of weeks ago. There have been no changes to settings, hardware, software, etc. The odd thing is that I can't connect to my daughter in DC, but I can connect to my son in Oakland, CA.

I tried resetting the SMC and this did not resolve the problem.

Has anything changed about your or your daughters's Network Connection ?
New Modem ?
New Router ?
New ISP ?
Speed Change ?

She relocated and has a new ISP. Come to think of it, this problem coincides with her relocation.

And does that mean new equipment (Modem or router) for her ?

No, the only change in anything was to the new ISP.

OK,

Did she have DNS server listed in the Modem before ?
Does she have the ones for the New ISP ?

Who is the New ISP ? Because Comcast and Road Runner can cause issues if the Bandwidth in iChat is not low enough.

Here it the response from my daughter:

We do have a new ISP, www.OpenBand.net, who provides a (up to) 100MB bi-directional connection to the house. This is in contrast to our previous ISP, Verizon FiOS, who provided a 20~25MB connection.

We also have a new router, which was already installed in the basement when we moved in (handles both phone and TV). Our wireless router, which is connected to OpenBand's router in our basement, is the same - Apple Airport 802.11n.

We didn't make any changes to iChat, and can still video chat with family in Maryland and California.

The 100Mb in both directions may be part of the issue.

First of all both ends should change iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps.

Next what device did OpenBand supply ?
(Was it changed form the Verizon one that they had ?)
The Verizon one is often a Actiontec device that can also route which means the Airport was most likely set to Bridge (Off) Mode.

If the Airport has been changed to "Share An IP" then Port Mapping Protocol in the NAT tab may need to be turned On (They do not have to list ports)

We changed the bandwidth limits to 500 kbps and still can't connect. They are not sure what type of device they have, but it is different from the one they used with Verizon.

Where is the NAT tab?

Hi,

Use Airport Utility in Applications/Utilities) to Log on to the Base Station.
Select the Method that can review/edit the Settings

There are then icons (Toolbar) across the top.
In the Internet Icon page/pane you will have the NAT tab.

There is another buddy in Michigan that she can't connect with. I am also unable to connect with this person, although I have done so in the past.
