AIRPORT EXPRESS SETUP

Hi

I have a wireless network setup using an Airport express and I have been trying to add another airport express connected to my sound system to enable my music through airtunes. when I try to add the new airport express I go through the setup in airport utility and the airport express tries to restart after inputting the settings/passwords etc but is not recognised. It is not seen in the airport utility status. It flashes amber. I've tried a factory reset about 4 times but always the same problem.

Try temporarily connecting an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express and then configure the device that way. As soon as you see a message that the settings have been stored in the AirPort Express, close AirPort Utility.

The Express will restart and after 15-20 seconds, you will hopefully see the green light.

No luck. Did as you suggested and it seemed to update ok after plugging it via ethernet into my modem to pickup the IP address, got the green light ok. However, when I disconnected it and plugged it back into my sound system, goes back to amber flashing.

You may have better results if you plug the Express directly into your computer to configure it, not the modem/router.

You are configuring the Express to "join" your wireless network, correct? That's the correct setting to configure the Express for AirTunes.
