ARE USB OKI C5200 DRIVERS STILL UNAVAILABLE?

Hello Snow Leopard users,

I have been unable to locate any solution to the problem of not being able to print using my USB OKI C5200 colour laser printer with Snow Leopard.

OKI doesn't seem to have gone anywhere forwards in this issue since Snow Leopard's release date and their support people are not forthcoming with any answers.

Has anybody out there come up with a way to make my printer work with Snow Leopard?

Thanking you all for your help (especially you, Sheriff Kappy)...LOL.

Kind regards...

imac, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

This is one of those times, where there are no good answers. I hold two slim chances for answers.

www.okidata.com/mkt/html/nf/Drivers.html When you go to the site, click on the "Snow Leopard" icon. Invest some time, in some cases there are only minor tweak to make everything work well.

On the other hand, Apple Support Documents, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 show that Okidata upgrades were based on "GutenPrint"or other Open Source Software. I do not know what you think about this principle. It is not my place to tell you what to do. People have strong emotions and attachments to their systems. We all knew when we upgraded to "Snow Leopard", there was going to to be a time where we were going to be putting a significant part, if not the whole system to bed.

After looking at all sides, I just don't know.

It appears the only support you'll receive will be very generalized or through third party support at best.

From Okidata Website, "The C5200 was discontinued 1 FEB 2006.". Now you have all of the bad news, but is it all bad? - http://www.okidata.com/mkt/html/nf/MacSupport.html With this link, most definitely,NO. There is a great possibility to have a short term answer to give you the time o think through your different options. Good Luck!

Suggestion, which just may have some good news in it for you. In this section of the discussion boards, under "Apple.com> Support> Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard> Printing, faxing and scanning", you'll find, "New OS and OKI Data Printers", read it. It appears that OKI Data will be releasing print drivers, "soon". Questions that you just might want to include in an email to OKI Data Support. Just how long is "soon". They may also have a driver for your discontinued printer, ask them. It is in their own best interests to work with you, there is nothing worse than a dissatisfied customer. In fact, the dissatisfied customer becomes the manufacturer's worst nightmare because they talk or write.
