Can I do a fade-in/fade-out in Livetype or do I need to use FCP?
I have a short livetype intro which I want to fade in then fade out From black to blue-blue to black) Can I do that in Livetype or do I have to try and sort it in FCE ?
There are already fade in and fade out effects in LiveType -all they do is change the opacity of a track over time. Apply those and grab the end of the effect container to stretch them to the timing you want to use.
If you apply them to text and want the words to fade all at the same time, go to the Inspector > Timing pane and set the Sequence value to zero.
Or make your own with a simple two keyframe change in the opacity values.
In FCE, all you need to do is apply a dissolve transition to the start and end of your LiveType clip.
