Where to buy 2006 Mac Pro?

Trying to find a place or individual to buy an intel mac pro from around 2006. I don't need one as powerful as the new ones, nor do I want to spend that much.

Early 09 Intel iMac 2.66GHz 320GB HD 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.5.6), Mid 09 MacBook Pro 2.26GHz 250GB HD 4GB RAM

Today there is 2009 Quad $2195 which is a good value.

2006 has some gottcha limitations.

Maybe the new iMacs, or turn to something else. obviously there is ebay and such.

Even the 2008 mac pros are better than the 2006 series. If the poster wants a good system, he should look into the 2.8ghz mac pro or 3.2(3.0 is the exact same thing though 5 percent slower).

The reason I was thinking of a 2006 model was in hopes that I could get one for somwhere in the ballpark of around $1000. Also thinking that a dual core would more than sufice.

I have been watching ebay, although most seem to be fairly new. I wouldnt even mind if I could get one that needed some fixing.

What exactly do you need a mac pro for? Are you also planning on running windows 7 in 64 bit mode on the mac pro? I would go for a 2008 mac pro which has all those abilities, but it really depends on what you plan to use it for.

I understand his reasoning perfectly. Despite being 3 years old, the 2006 MP is still a very powerful workstation with later models seeing very little increase in productivity overall.

I have no reason to upgrade, yet, but certainly wouldn't sell mine for anywhere near 1K... If you find one at that price, it would be worth it.

I own a 2006 Mac Pro and I don't think you can get one for $1000. It's still a powerful machine and it would cost too much to upgrade to a new Mac Pro. Imagine paying $2500 just to be faster... I'm using it for audio and I still never run out of CPU...

I know its a low ball cost... I don't really expect to get one at that, but I figure if I start looking now, maybe within the next year I could get one for close to that.

What I really want is to do away with my PC. (I have a 2009 13" MBP and 2009 20" iMac) I want to be able to upgrade it as well, so that is why I am looking into the Mac Pro. I want to get one that I can run windows 7 under fusion with and have it run comfortably. Also want a machine that has the graphics power of that of a Geforce 9800 series.

What about parts, is there any place when I could get a shelled unit (sans ram, HD's, CPU..)? In order to reduce the cost? Probably not, but you never know until you ask. 🙂
