Make show/hide dock faster

Make show/hide dock faster

I want to show/hide the dock in order to maximize screen space, but what I really don't like about show/hide is that it takes about a second before the dock actually starts to come out. Is there a way to speed it up, so it doesn't take as long for the dock to appear? I remember in XP it was pretty much instantaneous if autohide was on. Thanks.

Macbook Pro (Early 2008) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

The more items you have the longer it takes to build for view.

If you have zoom turned on, it can also contribute.

The fasted way is to not hide.

For a faster experience, add physical ram and install a faster (spindle speed/larger buffer) hd.

Thanks, what I'm going to try is disable magnification but increase dock size, so when it pops up I don't need magnification. Now it shows up definitely faster. Thanks for your help, I'm going to see how this setup goes...
