1/8" audio line-in cable for the iPhone?

I just bought a Kaossilator (and it's the best thing ever--search for it on YouTube). Long story short: I need to be able to record on the iPhone through the 1/8" jack--does anyone know of a cable that (like the iPhone headphones) will allow me to bring an audio signal into the iPhone?

I assume I need a proprietary cable (in fact, I've already tried a standard 1/8" to 1/8" stereo cable, and it didn't work). However, I'm not sure where I'd find such a thing, and I thought maybe your gurus would know.

I have an original iPhone.

Thanks for your help!

That's actually the cable I've already tried--and it didn't work. Typical balanced 1/8" cables only seem to send an audio signal OUT from the iPhone.

I think I need a cable with the same connections/(wiring?) as the headphones that incorporate microphones--how they're different, I'm not sure, but they must be.

Anyone know what makes the iPhone headphone cable special? Or where I can find that sort of cable with a female 1/8" jack instead of earbuds?

Thanks for your help, everybody!
