Cannot resize grouped objects

I have a document with a collection of grouped drawing objects. They used to be floating objects and I have now converted the entire group to be inline. Unfortunately it is slightly wider than the page and hence I try to resize it but the group only seems to constrain itself to doubling in width. This can be seen here:

Any ideas? Someone want to ... y'know ... fix this?

Hi RantyDave

Select the group and:

+Inspector > Metrics > Size > change it numerically+

Beware, the text inside text boxes will not enlarge along with the group.

Peter

Just noticed that you had them inline. That may cause problems.

Select the group, copy and switch to Preview.app create New (cmd N) the group is now a .pdf file.

Save the .pdf file and drag it back into Pages. You can now crop and resize the group to your heart's content. Even the text will scale with the group as it is now one graphic.

I copied the diagram and created the pdf file in Preview then dragged that .pdf file back into Pages and it is fine.

What exactly do you get? Is the problem the "Here are some more words" because they are in your main text body and not the group.

Might I suggest you would create a much better diagram, and easier in OmniGraffle.

Also if your text boxes where not so oversized they would fit in your layout.

Peter

btw If you emailed it to me you I could have sent my result back.

I get this:

http://www.zedkep.com/stuff/pagesblankcopy.mov (oh look, the movie is truncated, how delightful)

But you're right, I shall no longer attempt to do diagrams in pages, it obviously hates it and the practice is probably a hangover from using "word".

I'll mark this as answered....

Thanks for having a look, much appreciated.

Oh! Didn't see email was an option 🙂 (I was just looking for a way to attach a file to a forum post)

Naaah.

All I get is censored when I actually exercise my natural Aussie tendency to say it as I see it.

Americans just love freedom of expression, gives them more to censor.

In this case I do think it is a bug that copying the inline object doesn't include the text:

+Menu > Pages > Provide Pages Feedback+

However if you followed my steps and floated the group it will work, I am sure of it. I've just done it.

+Inspector > Wrap > Object Placemnent > Floating+

Your previous posts have made it clear that you hate Pages (although, for some reason, you seem to keep using the program). Didn't realize you were such a generalist about Aussie and American traits. My observation is that not all Aussies are like you and not all Americans fit neatly into the box you provide for them.

'ave a g'dye.

I don't hate Pages, but I don't use it because it is so extraordinarily difficult to do anything useful with. Something I find ridiculously frustrating but addictive.

Typically if I don't fawn over it and praise it for what it is not, you describe that as hate.

It is the old "love it or leave it".

As to the generalisation, maybe, but it is something which I have frequently experienced so I can't help noticing, and as another generalisation, not something Americans like to talk about. Another topic for censorship.

Given the absurdities of the last 8 years, it seems that this is why you missed out on a lot that was obvious all round.

I first encountered it at a Mac User Group many years ago where an American friend got over the top angry at an article in a magazine and immediately threatened to cancel his subscription. I thought what an odd reaction, and asked him should the magazine perhaps poll him first as to what he would like to hear, then only tell him that?

Then, as now, it went straight over his head.

PS Watch this post disappear into the ether like so many others have.

The problem is I seem to know it a **** sight better than those who actually use it.

That and a lot of other programs.

Maybe I actually have something to compare it with?

I actually worked out the problems with Pages very early on. I spent a lot of time arguing those issues with the Pantomime "Oh no it isn't!" chorus.

Since then I have just helped out other users who seemed to be rudely told not to ask in the first place.

btw I also do websudoku.
