Q: New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:

Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.

Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.

Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

    Interesting post on forums.macrumors.com:

Just got off the phone with a manager at apple customer service. When i called in to inquire about my order the person had no clue where it was, why it was still showing it would ship yesterday (jan 14) and such. The he said maybe it left but it hasn't been updated so that took me over the top and i asked to speak to his manager someone who knew what they were talking. So a manager called me back 15min later.

He said my order has been delayed by 7 days to 14 days, he hopes only 7days but he can see it being longer. He did say that they believe they have figured out the problem with the machines and to avoid the crazy amount of exchanges that is causing the 2week period in the first places they are delaying the shipments till it is all sorted out.

If all that is all true, then why not show some compassion in a mature manner & have something positive to contribute. It's nice to have a certain amount of empathy for other people's hard ships. I too am an older member here, so let's not be hateful to one another.

By the way: When our new iMacs will have arrived, is there a possibility to find out whether they have a different sort of screen? I expect there is no way to tell about the kind of LCD cable being built into them, but the LCD itself - now that would be interesting.

For you guys that are reporting Shipping Delays. that is most likely a good thing. Maybe they are refraining from sending out any more defective units.

There are a number of week 53 units mentioned so far, I really need to get out my calendar to see just how many days/weeks there were last year.

The number of defective units reported has been falling steadily since week 50, although there have been a few in weeks 51 and 52.

I am a bit behind in the posts in the last few pages, but do not recall any defective 01's or 02's being mentioned. I'm still waiting to see how the serial numbers have changed, and if indeed the 53's are 2009 or 2010's.

Interesting - I've just had my screen and cable changed and when I open the profile on mine Device Manufacturer and Device Model are blank. Do those that have not had any work done give a manufacturer and model? Perhaps someone could have a look on theirs.

    Hi ,

I've a question to you, because you're the one with the numbers and the facts. Have you seen already posts from people having 01 or 02 iMachs. What did they report? Am I wrong, when I say, that we have not one negative report from them?

    Do they even exist???

And how is pazuita or dino can help..?
    Are they Apple employes (NOT).
Are they computer techs (NOT).. !

Talk to Apple and seek the answers. Dino and pazuita are Microsoft trolls.

Pazuita, I really would like to know what happened the last two weeks. Could it be, that they stopped the production? My reseller is waiting for weeks now to get new iMacs.
