Q: New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:

Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.

Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.

Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

I am totally convinced, that there is only 4 people on this thread saying the same thing over and over again... In an attempt to troll a thread... uggg..

Dont worry, your PC's still have some life left in them, dont let apples Q4 sales scare you into troll mode.

thing is, you cant win on this forum, if its not one thing people moan about its the other, this long thread.... well if it wasnt so long, there would be 1000 different threads clogging up the pages,

the repeated posters on here are troll, yes were all trolls,

i for one would just like to inform people of potential problems, i.e. a 2 hour round trip to the apple store, £10 of petrol each time to swap for a product thats going to go faulty again!!!

but yep your right, i love windows so much, i have had all 3 iphones, have a time capsule, a macbook pro 15" did have a 20" imac and for a month had 3 different imac 27"'s

and am now looking at getting a mac pro.

hi ho, hi ho, off to troll i go............

Im sorry, I just cant buy it from anybody on the forums anymore. you do know, regardless of your user name, when you post, you IP address goes with it.

I really feel sorry for those of you that had problems with the first models but It is very clear that there are not many people on here that are serious. I work with someone who bought one in November to one up me, he has never had a problem at all.

Is it really necessary to cloud a thread with BS just to defend an aging OS?

the talks with my wife to upgrade has begun, I will have one as soon as our base exchange gets them in stock.

I can tell you this problem is very much for real. My replacement imac 27' i5 exhibited the split screen issue on the second day of operation. I decided to hang in there and wait until the 14th day of the return period in the hopes of getting a 2010 manufactured unit. You know what after that 1 split screen incident it has been functioning error free. So instead of the hassle of bringing it back to the apple store, I think I'm going to keep this one, and since I have 3 year apple care, just deal with it through that should anything else, god forbid, happen.....

i agree with what you say,

dont really understand what you mean about the i.p. address??? but presumably you can see im sitting on safari with my mbp and smiling at you through the isight camera???

end of the day, up to you if you believe me, i know what ive gone through the last month and i cant really do anything to prove it to you.... nor do i need to,

could post receipts i suppose but it has all my personal info on it so thats not going to happen

oh and just to add, i use the same username on most forums i visit mate

oh and also another thing: why do people come out of their way to come into this thread and complain????? if your imac works.... im genuinely happy for you, all 3 of mine didnt, luck of the draw i suppose.

I can understand you ... this is a very strange thread. I know that some of us - me too - are posting to often, maybe saying the same things again and again, but I tell you, I'll stay here until I got the answers I need. You can call me what you want ... no problem!

Mine sits on a glass with a harman/kardon speaker either side but they are tiny - It still shouldn't be happening.

One small theory that has been discussed which I believe in is heat, when I arrive in the morning to my office it's cold, as my office warms up the flickering begins! Haven't noticed the flickering when it's cold... But this could just be a coincidence...

I would love to just send my iMac back and get a refund but I need it, I use it for work everyday. I originally had a 1 year old Mac Pro Quad Core, it was a beast but I decided to get rid and buy one of these babies for size and beauty of the screen...... What a regret...

you can tell a forum lost its legitimacy when... you post a comment and you get a retort almost instantly... which would explain the 400k views.... its the same 6 people mashing the refresh button.

so when i get an email notification, shall i wait 10 minutes? then post? personally i like to deal with things when they arrive.

id still appreciate some clarification of what you were implying about the ip addresses?

Apple knows when you post from the same computer with different/multiple user names. If you are not one of those people, then you should thank the people who are... they are smothering a thread intended to help consumers who have serious problems with nonsense....

This is why apple doesn't respond to a thread, they can see the IP addresses that post, not just the user names.

    good nuff?

yeah! now youve explained it ive seen people banned on forums for duplicate accounts, so that must be how they know! always wondered.....

the way i look at this thread is that people who have been affected by this issue are posting talking about it, is it really causing that much harm though?

and as for apple, check away on the ip addresses! i have enough trouble remembering one account let alone my trolling account

Ugh, whatever guy. Perhaps the reason there are so many posts is because there's actually a lot of problems to talk about.

I haven't had a Windows machine since 1998, and have far better things to do with my time than invent complaints about a company that I have supported for most of my adult life.

    The iMac problems are real.
