Q: New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:

Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.

Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.

Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

Your iMac problems are real... real as in you and a couple of other people constantly post on a thread to discourage people... your obsession with this product and this thread is unhealthy.

Like waiting at the mailbox all day for the mailman when you know he will be there at noon........

If your a serious owner of this machine and are having problems, contact Apple... If your a no life, low life troll, contact a psychiatrist...

If you think it's only a handful of imacs on the blink due to there being
only 2 or 3 actual people on this thread, then that would make the chances of
me receiving three faulty imacs in a row almost impossible!
I'm unlucky. But not that unlucky........

Way back in the beginning of the long toothed thread I posted that my co worker recieved his imac 27 8GB ram I7 and it was working great. He still has not had any problems but it definitely has a yellow cast in stops in the corner, for some resome he is willing to accept it so who am I to push the matter. He never starts cold an allow it to sleep. He does not use air post but does use the newest Parrallels for windows 7.
So if something changes on his built 46 then I will post. Still feel apple should put a shock and or temperature sticker on the boxes and a fragile sign with arrows.

but Hey I am one of 4 people writing these threads right ?

I too have been experiencing the flickering and black screens...

I have a second monitor attached via the display port, and it does NOT flicker or go black.

Here is a link to a vid on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI62Ez8Tl1M

You can see the monitor go black twice in the 1 minute vid.

There are some very REAL people here with some very real issues with their new iMacs. This is my first Apple Product that I bought that was defective. If Apple gave us definite answers & permanent solutions to these issues, we wouldn't be posting in the first place. Hence, the 27" ATI Firmware Update. That fix did not help most. It was putting a Band Aid on a Deep Cut that needed stitches. Yes we are commiserating on here! I admit it! Have we found a solution from this thread? Yes, so far we found out it's not the 2 Video Cards (ATI & NVidia), but replacing the entire screen & screen cable to video card seems to have positive results. Apple never admitted that the screens were defective in the first place, but they most definitely. Now if Apple would do this same fix for everyone, this thread would go away. But No! They are replacing Video Cards which does not help anything. A useless repair.

Perhaps in 10.6.3 will be something new (regarding this issue).

If screens and screen cables are flawed (as it seems from many reported experiences on this thread) I seriously doubt that any software update can solve the problems.

You are being disrespectful to the 150+ unique posters in the last week alone. The flickering/blackout issue is a real problem for lots of people around the globe, me included. We have contacted Apple and are waiting. We are waiting for repairs, refunds or replacement iMacs. In the meantime, we discuss the issue here. Please refer to the Apple Discussions Terms of Service, which says 1) Stay on topic, 2) Be polite, and 3) Post constructive comments and questions.

I've decided to unsubscribe or unwatch this thread. There's no signal in here...just noise.

Amen to that, brother! It's been the same four or five people over the last several pages saying the same things over and over and OVER. They simply don't provide any new info. It's too bad because there are valuable inputs from new posters who've just discovered the problem. Unfortunately, those four/five (you know who you are) feel compelled to post a response +every single time+ someone new posts. They just wind up watering down the meaningful posts with their nonsense. No wonder this thread has gone as long as it has!

Bottom line -- this thread is indeed now all noise, no signal. I'm out.
