Q: New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:

Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.

Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.

Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

Zapping the PRAM is a basic first stop when something goes wrong; yes, most if not all of us have tried this. For me it did not change anything, nor did any other troubleshooting. We have to wait for a fix, more than likely hardware-related. Sorry! You might go a few hours or days without a flicker, but that's the way it goes whether you restart, sleep and wake, or basically do anything.

Not to fdefend the Technician but that Model does come with Bluetooth Keyboard & the Magis Mouse. No USB needed. That is why they never noticed.

Update, finally they swapped my I5 week 46 for a week 51, firmware pre installed.
Ran tests, so far a bit of yellowing in the bottom middle of screen thats a new one for me.
3 dead isight pixels and they are right in the middle of my forehead when i took the picture grrr, thats going to be annoying!!!!!
I reinstalled OSX on the old one last night and I have severe scratches on the disk, just went to put music on this one and most of my disks now have scratches from the old one,(i didn't even notice until now) some of my music cd's are signed, not happy at all, still going through my collection

pazuita...I wrote that fast & there was some typos. But I was in no way protecting the Technician. Only stating a fact that the Tech did not need to plug anything into the USB Port. Of course the incompetent should have check EVERYTHING before declaring the iMac was fixed. So no, I did not Re "Butt" myself as you put it.

Dino.......You just didn't leave me any choice. Had to do it.......(snicker, snicker)

If any of you are interested.......

Here is a good series of photos on the disassembly of the 27" i7.

    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac-Intel-27-Inch/1236/1

If you scroll through to page 3, down by step 21, there is a close up view of the firewire and usb ports for the i7.

They are fixed to the logic board, no adjustments possible.
The logic board is fixed into the frame in pre drilled holes, again, no room for adjustment.

Can't help but wonder just how the tech could get something out of adjustment, when there is no room for adjustment.

Thanks thxdude, it's good to see a positive comment now and then to balance things out.

It's a shame that more of the posters on this forum that have had successful repairs and replacements don't post here more often. There have been hundreds that have had their situations resolved that no longer visit this forum, of course, they have no need to, but all that we get an impression of is what does not work, and rarely ever see what does work.

Glad to see that your cable, and display replacement worked.

Apple must be convinced that there is an issue with some of the video cards, since they insist on replacing them so often.

If you view the link above of the disassembly of this unit, the video card is just about the last thing to be removed since it is on the back side of the logic board. It is a fairly simple matter to remove, the display, and although I am not sure which cable requires replacement, it is possible it could be done without removing the logic board, depending on which cable it is, and where it connects.

Earlier poster. Still waiting for my second Imac, and can't tell where its coming from yet. Will post when I have news. Pretty much expecting the yellow screen, but my fingers are crossed anyway.

I am in the process of wiping my HD before I package the computer to send it back.

Here is a photo I took of the ports. As you can see the ports are just low enough to prevent any cable from being plugged in
